We’re delighted to invite you to take part in an international conference about Guantánamo — “Guantánamo: 20 Years After” — taking place on Friday Nov. 12 and Saturday Nov. 13. The conference is hosted by the University of Brighton in the U.K., and our co-founder Andy Worthington has been helping to organize it, and is a keynote speaker. Check out our article about it here.
Former prisoner Mohamedou Ould Salahi is also a keynote speaker, and former prisoner Mansoor Adayfi and his editor Antonio Aiello are also taking part as guest speakers. The conference also features three panel discussions involving experts on Guantánamo, the law, torture and activism, and eleven academic papers.
We very much hope that you can join us at this conference as the 20th anniversary of the opening of Guantánamo approaches (on Jan. 11, 2022). As Andy writes in his article, “The conference could not be better timed. Although President Biden has indicated his desire to close the prison, he has done little to encourage us to believe that it ranks high in his priorities.”
