Broad-Daylight Fascism Is Impossible to Ignore
- Category: Elections
"We have come to it at last," writes Truthout editor William Rivers Pitt. "The moment too many have been whistling past in the ill-placed hope that everything would fix itself has arrived. The Achilles heel of democracy -- the use of the democratic process to install a government bent on dismantling democracy -- has been pierced with deliberation and intent. It is everywhere now, and all of us are involved.
FAQ #2: Aren't they all fascists - Obama and Hilary too?
- Category: Elections
World Can't Wait | December 29, 2016
They are all members of the ruling class and led or hope to lead this empire. That doesn't make them inherently fascist. Even while Obama said the "They are on the same team," it doesn't mean that they play the same way. "Fascism is the exercise of blatant dictatorship by the bourgeois (capitalist-imperialist) class, ruling through reliance on open terror and violence, trampling on what are supposed to be civil and legal rights, wielding the power of the state and mobilizing organized groups of fanatical thugs to commit atrocities against masses of people, particularly groups of people identified as 'enemies,' 'undesirables,' or 'dangers to society.'" FAQ #1: Are you saying Hilary should be President? Won't stopping Trump and Pence from taking office just give us Hillary?
- Category: Elections
The election of Donald Trump was not the will of the people. This election was illegitimate and his ascension to power would be even more illegitimate and so must not be allowed. No!
We aren't saying Hilary should be president. In fact, World Can’t Wait was at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) calling the whole election between a fascist (Trump) and a war criminal (Clinton) illegitimate.
Some People Want to Talk about the Democrats, War & Torture
- Category: Elections
Larry Wilmore, who hosted the White House Correspondent's dinner last weekend, didn't go soft on Obama for not closing Guantanamo. Other than Trump and Cruz, he's almost the only one to remind people the prison is still open, as it's not a subject for discussion among Democrats.
The 2014 Elections: Do the People Have a Choice?
- Category: Elections
Yes [we do have a choice], but not through voting and the other means that those in power tell us are our only options. There’s a reason why they say around elections time, “it doesn’t matter who you vote for as long as you vote.” They say it because it’s true: it really doesn’t matter who you vote for. They want you to think that you’re making the decisions along with your fellow citizens when we aren’t doing that at all, which is why what matters is that you vote, not who you vote for.

Raising Our Sights, Shouldering Our Responsibilities

Yesterday the major party vice-presidential candidates held their “debate.” What did we hear? We got a script-reciting Christian fascist posing as a reformer and a fascist-enabler posing as a change agent. The same man who, as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, blocked other women from testifying who would have supported Anita Hill’s allegations against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, the same man whose party warns us of the dire consequences on the Supreme Court if the GOP wins, the same man who contributed mightily to the rush to war on Iraq, the same man who has for thirty-five years done the bidding of the rich and powerful, now wants our endorsement.
