Flier: No U.S. Bombing of Syria

Updated September 9, 2013

Barack Obama is selling the planned US bombing of Syria as a “humanitarian” act in response to a chemical weapons attack on civilians.

Bombing Syria will kill more civilians and invite even more intervention and weapons into the country, making it more likely that the civil war could expand into an extremely dangerous regional conflagration.

The Leaked Footage Private Manning was Sent to Prison For

Collateral Murder is the military’s own video of 12 Iraqis being shot and killed from a U.S. helicopter circling above in 2007. It records the wanton slaughter of people walking down the street, as well a completely unwarranted attack on a vehicle with children in it.

No one has been charged in connection with these killings. However, Bradley (now known as Chelsea) Manning was sent to prison for 35 years for making this incriminating video public via Wikileaks. World Can’t Wait is distributing copies of this harrowing video so that many more people in the U.S. see what is being done in their names. Instructions on how to do public showings on the street are also available.

Flier: Support the Prisoners Hunger Strike — Close Guantanamo Now!

Gitmo Hunger StrikeUpdated May 7, 2013

With space for local info (keep files together) DOC JPG

IN 2002, the Bush regime set up a primitive prison camp at a U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Several hundred men were subjected to “enhanced interrogation”, what the rest of the world calls torture. Most had been turned in for $5,000 cash bounties the U.S. paid, and had no connection to attacks on the U.S. 157 haven't ever been charged and 86 were cleared for release years ago.

Obama has the power to release the 86 cleared, but has not. Congress has legislated to block Guantanamo’s closure; federal courts have blocked prisoners’ rights to sue, and denied their petitions for habeas corpus. The few that have been charged will not be tried because the abuse and torture they suffered at government hands would be revealed.

Prisoners are desperately trying to get the world’s attention by refusing to eat, some of them since early February 2013. The hunger strike has grown to 130 men. The media is no longer ignoring it. Obama had to address it in a recent press conference. He said Guantanamo hurts America’s standing and doesn’t keep America safe and never mentioned the immense suffering these men have endured. Obama said he would need to go back to Congress with the issue.

166 men remain imprisoned at Guantananamo Bay.
157 haven’t been charged and 86 have been cleared for release.
May 17-19 Global Days of Action Mark 100 Days of Hunger Strike

The truth is that Obama could close Guantanamo today and doesn’t need Congress . The otherwise dangerous National Defense Authorization Act includes waiver provisions that give the Obama Administration the legal authority to transfer detainees from Guantánamo. Obama justified force feeding, a brutal procedure in which a tube is shoved into the nose and liquids are pumped down the throat while prisoners are strapped down in a chair. The United Nations Human Rights Commission, The World Medical Association, and the American Medical Association denounce force feeding as torture and/or unethical.

One thing is clear to people of conscience and that is Obama must close Guantanamo now! We must do what we can to create a political situation where Obama releases the cleared prisoners and closes Guantanamo. It was always wrong and no government should be able to do such things.

ZERO DARK THIRTY: What’s wrong with a film that justifies torture?

Zero Dark Thirty FlierZERO DARK THIRTY: What’s wrong with a film that justifies torture?
Zero Dark Thirty represents the CIA's view of the world: an eleven year illegitimate, unjust, immoral "war of terror" on Muslims as revenge for 9/11.

What happened on 9/11/01 in New York City was a horror. The forces that attacked the World Trade Center are totally reactionary.

BUT – what was done by the U.S. in the name of 9/11 – whether justified by “safety,” “justice,” or simple revenge – turned out to be a far worse horror, a war for empire:

New Flyer on Torture & the Election of a New President

Your government is openly torturing people... and justifying it.

Will the election of a new president stop this?

YOUR GOVERNMENT ADMITS TORTURING PEOPLE:

On February 5, 2008 CIA Director Michael Hayden stood before Congress and admitted CIA officers aterboarded three detainees. Two days after Hayden's admission, U.N. High Commissioner For Human Rights Louise Arbour classified waterboarding as torture.

On April 9, 2008 ABC News reported that Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice, John shcroft, Colin Powell, and George Tenet met regularly in the White House to discuss and approve arious forms of torture-including waterboarding-for use on detainees. On April 11, President eorge W. Bush himself admitted approving these meetings, saying: "And yes, I'm aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved."

As of December 2007, according to Amnesty International, the U.S. was known to be holding 275 etainees in Guantanamo Bay, ("Gitmo") Cuba. All but a handful of these detainees have never been charged, and have never received a trial. The vast majority of these detainees were turned over to the U.S. by warlords; they were not captured on the battlefield. Even the U.S. military only haracterizes only 8% of these detainees as Al-Qaeda fighters.
