"That which you do not resist and mobilize to stop you will learn – or be forced – to accept.”
To the Anti-War Movement in the United States:
Barack Obama is sending a surge of 20,000 troops to Afghanistan.
An antiwar movement that does not move immediately to oppose the Obama doctrine of shifting the central front of the war on terror to Afghanistan, no longer deserves to be called an anti-war movement.read more...
The World Can’t Wait organizes people living in the United States to repudiate and stop the fascist direction initiated by the Bush Regime, including: the murderous, unjust and illegitimate occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan; the global “war of terror” of torture, rendition and spying; and the culture of bigotry, intolerance and greed. This direction cannot and will not be reversed by leaders who tell us to seek common ground with fascists, religious fanatics, and empire. It can only be possible by the people building a community of resistance - an independent mass movement of people - acting in the interests of humanity to stop, and demand prosecution, of these crimes.
Note: The following is a copy of a response from a World Can't Wait supporter after we sent out a statement saying that people of conscience should oppose and resist the transfer of Guantanamo detainees to the Thomson Correctional Facility in Thomson, Illinois. The response illustrates the questions people will ask those who oppose such a move by our government. I have put her response is in bold Italics and have put my answer to her questions below her response.
There are SO MANY problems today that it seems impossible to undertake to learn about them all. I support much of what "The World Can't Wait" says and does. And I must confess I have no real knowledge of this situation regarding Thompson, ILL. However, what I have read and tried to analyze objectively this does not seem to be a wrong move. Will it not start the closing of Guantanamo? Will these prisoners be well guarded and unlikely to be released or escape? The people in Illinois and the governor it seems are for it, in that the situation will provide jobs for many of the out of work people and a protected environment for the prisoners while they are on trial. What am I missing or misunderstanding? - Pat
A man hangs suspended from bars of his cell. His feet barely touch the floor, the cord used to tie his wrists digs in deeper each time he moves. Every muscle in his body twists and contorts. His blood is rushing and building in several places inside his anatomy - it is starting to clot. If this goes on much longer he will surely die.
He barely slept the night before as his tormentors allowed him only moments of sleep. They have done this numerous times before. The music will blare and blare until it is imprinted in his brain. Then it goes off and he falls to sleep - til the music soon starts again.
The World Can’t Wait was part of the historic march on D.C. demanding full equality for LGBT people. The march was organized and mobilized by a new generation of LGBT people galvanized by their outrage at the passing of Proposition 8 in California on the night of Obama’s election. While some gay leaders advocated patience and waiting for the next election cycles to repeal Proposition 8, these young people were not willing to “wait and see” if Obama would be their ally and be the one to grant them their rights. Thus, this march was organized from coast to coast. Tens of thousands of people marched.
Not so many years ago a young man lay naked, beaten, and chained to a floor in a place not known by you or me...until now. It is a secret CIA black site called the Salt Pit. If his story is like that of many others, he was probably handed over by warlords or members of a rival tribe looking for a handsome reward. The U.S. military promised monetary rewards for the handing over of persons who were known terrorists or had terrorist ties. In a country as poor and as destitute as Afghanistan you and I probably can't imagine how much money the good ol' U.S. of A doled out. Everybody and their brother was a terrorist it would seem. I wonder do the numbers of those detained and tortured number the amount of granules of salt in a salt pit? Those numbers probably will amount to that at the end of it all-if it ends at all-it, meaning what our government calls the "war on terror", which seem to have no end.
But let’s get back to that young man, a young Afghan man, who lays naked and chained to the floor. Well, he died. He froze to death or died from his beatings somewhere near Kabul. He died in the Salt Pit.
