If you're like me, you haven't slept much in the last
week. January 31st took a lot
of effort to bring thousands of people out all across the country to drown out
Bush's State of the Union address. And
now we got more work to do ( to get tens of thousands to DC this Saturday,
demanding that BUSH STEP DOWN right in the capital. And if you're like me, you know the tremendous
potential right now for this movement to drive out the Bush regime to take hold
on a whole new level, and you're excited and anxious about what happens in DC
Saturday.
So today, let's turn our excitement and nervous energy into
an all-out effort to get a whole lot more people on the bus. When this much is at stake, we can't
passively wait to see how things turn out.
When we're seeking to drive out this regime, we can't settle for what
we've achieved thus far or play anything other than a dynamic and determined role
all the way through, including at the last minute.
In times like these, people make quick decisions to drop
what they're doing because they can't tolerate what's going on. If people were at or heard about the protests
on January 31st, then let's take all the inspiration and energy they
got there and turn it into all-out organizing for DC. If people watched Bush give his Sate of the
Union address, then their anger must be bubbling up inside waiting for someone
to come along and say 'LET IT ALL OUT IN DC
SATURDAY!'
So what exactly can be done in a day? Here's a few ideas:
On the east coast, there's no excuses. It's really not that big a deal for anyone
who hates this regime to hop in a car or bus with some friends and get their
ass down to DC. We just gotta tell them
to. We should be flyering all day (
during lunch hours, when people are getting off of work, and at the movie lines
at night. This is the kind of day where
everywhere you go and everyone you see, you're saying 'GET
ON THE BUS'. And if you ever went to
college ( you know that people take weekend trips all the time for all kinds of
reasons, including just for the hell of it.
So go into the dorms ( and convince people what a difference they can
make coming to DC this weekend.
On the west coast, if you can't afford a last minute plane
ticket ( first off, if you know anyone on the east coast, even if you ain't
talked to them in a while, call âem up ( tell them to get on the bus - and do
whatever convincing you have to! And
spend your day sending emails out, posting on websites, calling in to radio
stations, and every way you can think of to let people know about Saturday's
protest.
We should keep reaching out to organizations and prominent
individuals ( and any advances made should be broadcast to build more momentum
( like 'did you hear what Mark Ruffalo just said about the protest this
weekend?' When people hear about things
like this, it can push a lot of people off the fence and into the streets.
A lot can happen at the last minute. Remember that on Nov. 2nd,
thousands of high school students didn't decide to walk out until that day. But when they saw the chance to make history,
they took it.
All out for DC! Sleep
is for Sunday.
