New York, NY –  On Thursday, October 7, World Can’t Wait will join other activists at the Times Square Recruiting Center, 44th and Broadway for a rally and protest demanding the complete and immediate withdrawal of all military troops and private contractors from Afghanistan.

Elaine Brower, a member of the National Steering Committee of World Can’t Wait says, “This country is brutalizing the people of the middle east for such a long time it has become mass genocide.  My son did three tours in the wars and occupations, and has returned home to a broken and divided country because killing is never right.”

On October 7, 2001, then President George Bush ordered the completely invasion of Afghanistan.  President Obama escalated troops levels to over 100,000, with more troops on the way.  This is the longest in US history.

Debra Sweet, National Director of World Can’t Wait says, “The most powerful country in the world is destroying the poorest.  Civilian casualties, and US military casualties are going up with the surge of US troops.  President Obama is increasing drone bombing attacks on Afghanistan and Pakistan, increasing public opposition to the occupation.  Stop it now, for humanity's sake.”

War Resisters League, Code Pink and Veterans for Peace will participate.
