"That which you do not resist and mobilize to stop you will learn – or be forced – to accept.”
To the Anti-War Movement in the United States:
Barack Obama is sending a surge of 20,000 troops to Afghanistan.
An antiwar movement that does not move immediately to oppose the Obama doctrine of shifting the central front of the war on terror to Afghanistan, no longer deserves to be called an anti-war movement.read more...
The World Can’t Wait organizes people living in the United States to repudiate and stop the fascist direction initiated by the Bush Regime, including: the murderous, unjust and illegitimate occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan; the global “war of terror” of torture, rendition and spying; and the culture of bigotry, intolerance and greed. This direction cannot and will not be reversed by leaders who tell us to seek common ground with fascists, religious fanatics, and empire. It can only be possible by the people building a community of resistance - an independent mass movement of people - acting in the interests of humanity to stop, and demand prosecution, of these crimes.
Please
sign this peititon condemning the trampling of Nick Morgan and others at
the Oct. 15th anti-war protest at the last presidential debate at
Hofstra University.
Please donate funds to help cover Nick's medical bills at ivaw.org.
I'm writing to pass along my personal account of what happened
Wednesday night at the final presidential debate. Myself, nine other
veterans and five of our civilian supporters were arrested during a
non-violent action at Hofstra University prior to the final
presidential debate.
During the demonstration, Police recklessly charged horses onto the
sidewalk and into a crowd of non-violent veterans and civilian
demonstrators resulting in the breaking of one Iraq vet's cheekbone
(who was then arrested and initially refused medical treatment by the
police) and the breaking of another Iraq vet's foot.
I'm
headed out to Hofstra University on Long Island for the last
presidential debate, along with a group from World Can't Wait. The
Iraq Veterans Against the War is doing a rally at the Long Island
railroad station this afternoon with the message: {xtypo_quote}We the People, will have our voices be heard! We the People, Do Not Want War!{/xtypo_quote}
We will walk together for a mile to where The Long Island Alliance and other peace groups are holding a rally
in a "free speech cage" at Hofstra. Until recently, some peace groups
did not want to have a rally against the war, for fear of damaging
Obama's campaign, but have changed their plans as both candidates have
been calling for more troops to Afghanistan. See Larry Everest's
article "A War for Empire - Not a "Good War" Gone Bad."
Hundreds of protesters gathered across the street from the Hyatt-Regency in Burlingame, CA Sunday, when Sarah Palin made an appearance at a fund-raiser. Union members, Obama supporters, womens' rights activists and people against theocracy had great signs and energy. World Can't Wait was there.
People brought posters with a lot of substance! Coverage at indybay.org
